A TOLL TO PAY
The flames of the sun could light his path
and he would not see the errors of his way.
If he were caged and submerged in water,
he would not feel the helplessness.
He could be skinned from head to toe,
doused in salt and would not feel the pain.
And should he lay face-down in the city sewers
he would still not be able to smell the disgust.
His whole family could die before his very eyes
and he would not know the same sorrow
There is nothing anyone could do to this man
That would allow him to know the same anger.
For this mans actions have been seen by a nation.
And a nation has seen his quick finger
A nation has seen his lack of conscience
And a nation will also see his eventual demise
This man will live his life knowing he murdered
He will also live his life thinking he is free
But this white man who’s been called a hero
Will have his day with the reaper
When this mans clock runs out of time
His last two visions will burn his eyes
The first will be a tombstone with the name “Dudley”
The last, will be an arrow with the name “Sgt. Deane”
Whether he dies by nature or by the hands of a brave
Whether he goes to heaven or to hell
This man with no remorse and no soul
will learn one way or another - He will pay his toll.
